Monitoring Birds of Prey

Objective: To determine what species and numbers of hawks, owls, and eagles are nesting on the CPER, their comparative nesting success, and relationships to raptor populations nesting elsewhere in Weld County.  

Methods: Check likely nests from roads using spotting scope. When young are found, climb trees with ladder and band young.  

Study Area: Wherever there are trees and/or prairie dog towns. No definite plots.
