Dana Hoag received his Ph.D. in 1984 from Washington State University, writing one of the first dissertations about the Conservation Reserve Program. His bachelor and masters degrees were both from Colorado State University. After beginning his career at North Carolina State University, Dr. Hoag returned to Colorado State University in 1993, where he is now a Professor in the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics.
Dr. Hoag has published over 50 journal articles, three books, including Agricultural Crisis in America, and hundreds of extension and outreach publications on production, decision making and policies related to land and water management. His research includes the economic returns to Extension, soil conservation, waste management, farm policy, irrigation management, groundwater contamination from nutrients and pesticides, land conservation, and risk and production management on farms and ranches.
Dr. Hoag has received several awards for teaching, research and extension. He has served as a special advisor on the Farm Bill and to the US Environmental Protection Agency. He is also the Past-President of the Western Agricultural Economics Association, and he serves on numerous committees for national, state and local policy and decision making projects.
